Three burning questions for the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles

After representing the NFC in Super Bowl LVII, Philadelphia fell apart in 2023, leaving Eagles fans with more questions than answers.

Here are three burning questions for the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles.

Who will fill the leadership void?

With the retirements of Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce, the Eagles lost 25 years of NFL experience, not to mention 13 Pro Bowl appearances. Replacing their leadership will be difficult, but it's something former Eagle and Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins thinks will happen.

"Before I was a leader, there was Troy Vincent," Dawkins said on "NFL Total Access." "There was Irving Fryar ... So the way that it happens usually is those young guys who’ve been waiting for their turn to step up into that space, into that atmosphere of being that leader. Not by just what they say on the field but how they practice, how they execute on game day and all of those things."

Fortunately for the Eagles, defensive end Brandon Graham will return for a 15th season with the team after setting a franchise record in 2023 with 195 regular season games played. He’s always been a vocal leader, but he’ll need help if the team hopes to rebound from last year’s collapse.

Can a pair of new coordinators fix the team?

Philadelphia scored the third-most points per game (28.1) and tied Washington for second-fewest points allowed per game (20.2) in 2022. So while no one was surprised to see coordinators Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen receive head coaching jobs, few expected their replacements to perform so poorly.

Philadelphia still had a top-10 offense in 2023 under new coordinator Brian Johnson, but the team collapsed down the stretch, losing six of its last seven games, including a 32-9 playoff loss to Tampa Bay in which the team managed only three first downs.

Defensively, things got much worse under first-year coordinator Sean Desai, who lost play-calling duties to Matt Patricia in Week 15. Only the Commanders (30.5) and Cardinals (26.8) allowed more points per game (25.2) than the Eagles last season.

For 2024, Philadelphia added former Cowboys and Chargers coordinator Kellen Moore to run the offense and longtime coordinator and former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio to fix the defense. If that doesn’t work, head coach Nick Sirianni likely won’t be leading the team into 2025.

Who will be the No. 3 receiver?

With the sudden retirement of DeVante Parker, one of Philadelphia’s first free-agent signings, the team’s No. 3 wide receiver spot remains wide open. Former Colt and one-time Giant Parris Campbell has plenty of speed but misses lots of games and has just five touchdowns in his five-year career.

That could open things up for rookies Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson. Smith was one of the team’s three fifth-round picks this year, while Wilson went in the sixth round. At 6-foot-6 and 228 pounds, Wilson could be useful in the end zone or even as a hybrid tight end if Dallas Goedert misses time.

Of course, former Raiders receiver Hunter Renfrow is still available. If Campbell gets injured or the two rookies struggle, he’d be an excellent choice to replace Parker, though he shouldn’t be available much longer.
