Drew Brees Claims Right Arm Doesn’t Work Anymore

In an interview  with ESPN Radio’s Greeny Brees said that he throws left-handed now because “my right arm does not work.” This all stems from when he dislocated his shoulder in 2006, the year before he signed with the Saints as a free agent. When he was being looked at by other teams, the shoulder was a concern. Despite this, Brees had a brilliant career but near the end, his arm strength definitely started to go.

“It became a great struggle to be healthy enough to go out there and really perform at the highest level just with the limitations that I had. I could dice you up inside of 40 yards all day long. But it became it harder and harder to do things downfield.”

This ultimately led to his retirement from the game.

Great Career Despite Injury

The fact that Brees was able to remain successful despite the inability to be able to throw downfield is a testament to how good of a player he was. He briefly held many all-time passing records before Tom Brady surpassed him in his final season. He only won the one Super Bowl but often took the Saints deep into the playoffs. In certain cases, the lack of Super Bowl berths were not his fault (see the Minnesota loss).

This is an unfortunate thing to hear from Drew Brees. It shows the cost that is associated with playing in the NFL.
