Caitlin Clark responds to comparison to Peyton Manning
Indianapolis Star-USA TODAY NETW

Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever earlier this week, drew a comparison to Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning this week.

Sports talk host Pat McAfee, a former teammate of Manning with the Indianapolis Colts, noted that former NFL tight end Dallas Clark, also a former teammate of Manning, went to a lot of Clark's games at Iowa and he felt like she has some similar traits as Peyton.

(Dallas Clark played college football at Iowa.)

“He went to a lot of your games and watched you. He said, ‘She has like all of the traits that Peyton had.’ The accountability, the wanting of excellence all the time," explained McAfee on Wednesday.

McAfee had Caitlin Clark on his show on Wednesday and he asked her about that comparison.

“Yeah, I don’t really care about what other people say," said Clark. "I feel like I’m just so fiery and so passionate. And I feel like that’s why I’m so good, too. If I didn’t have that I don’t think I would have the success that I’ve had. But yeah, that’s how I’ve always been. I think I’ve been able to channel it a lot more throughout my career and use it more positively rather than negatively.”

There's no doubt that Clark's competitiveness is what takes her game to another level. It's a trait that a lot of athletes want to have, but it's not something you can fake. Certain elite athletes are just born with it. And Clark, obviously, is one of those.
